Last weekend, for two day’s a local club called Kihachi Kai, put on an exhibit of their tree’s at the Shinpakuji Temple. The group was founded by the late Kamiya-San (one of our senpai’s, Boon’s Oyakata). When he passed away it was taken over by my Oyakata. We were there to help out setup and break down the next day. I had a short time frame to whip round and take a few pics.

As well the local club exhibition tree’s, some of the private collection of the head priest (Oomura-San) was on display, as it always is. Here are some of the tree’s on display outside.

The collection includes two Kokufu winner’s (A white pine and a Chinese quince) and Oomura-San has exhibited at Kokufu for the last 20 years.

    John,
Excellent piece of reportage by yourself! Always enjoys seeing your posts. Does Oomura San have any particular professional look after his trees?

    • Thanks Dave. Yes Oomura-San is a customer of Daiju-en family, which includes our nursery and people who have studied with the family. Normally Oomura-San wil make a decision on certain work to which ever professional he likes. Last year on my first visit, Oyakata was wiring a famous white pine that won Kokufu about 15 years ago. Unfortunately I didn’t take a picture of it in the rush to get round but, I think Juan has a photo. I’ll try to borrow it and post it.

Cool post John. Oomura San’s Quince are some of my favorites! He has quite the fondness for Bunzan pots, of I remember….

    Just a “club” display!!!!!!

Very nice report on a “club display” , shows the in depth quality available to put on a show which is only a club level.
Also particularly admire the Chinese Quince, good to see the excellent ramification on the branches.
Very similar in stlye to my own tree but far, far superior.
